Welcome. I’m a 46 year old programmer with ADHD. If you are here, it’s probably because you want to code or improve your coding, but you suspect or know you have ADHD.
In some ways ADHD makes it hard to learn to code. We procrastinate, we constantly get distracted with new interests, and we have a hard time with the mundane repetitive work that is often needed for mastery of something like programming.
On the other hand, when we get interested in something, we get hyper-focused on it and tend to be very good at problem solving things we’re interested in until we burn out.
On this site, I’m going to talk through how I taught myself to program, how I keep learning new technologies, and how I avoid burning out.
I’m up to 500 days in a row of programming and I’m pretty convinced all of us can do that. You just need to:
- Commit to 5 minutes minimum each day (you can always do more when you get in the zone).
- Accept that your progress will be your own and don’t compare yourself to other people.
That’s it.
Learning to program is a lifetime commitment and there’s always something new to dig into. Let’s have a fun ride.
